Eclipses have been a part of astrology from the start, most popularly as ill-fated omens. This remains true to contemporay astrology, but their role and meaning has expanded somewhat. We’ll start with pre-natal eclipses.
Eclipses are routine in the year. Everyone has pre-natal eclipses occurring during their nine months of gestation. The knowledgable astrologer tracks these to see where the eclipses fall. Whatever contacts they make to the eventual natal chart shows significant points on the chart. Where do they fall for Gemma?
The eclipse can be seen as the Sun and Moon on opposite ends of the chart (opposition). This is the final eclipse before she was born. The Sun/Moon opposition lies across her Natal Uranus/Venus opposition. This proves to be an important aspect on her chart both medically, and with how it manifests in other mystical areas of her life. The biggest shows up in a later eclipse in her life:
Here, the eclipse (seen as Sun/Moon conjunction) are in Gemini. As the times are given, I do not see any tight aspects to angles nor nodes (which is what you look for in eclipses). However, this is the morning after she received the stigmata.
Based on her account, I figured the time as 00:30 on the vigil of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, when the experience started. She then tells how it lasted for hours and she came to and lied in bed to sleep some more from the pain, before getting up for mass where she covered her wounds and said she felt she would die any minute and could barely walk (holes in the feet make that hard). From the charts, we can see the Sun and Moon moving into position for an eclipse when her experience started. By the time it was all over and she left for mass the eclipse completed.
Note that Transit Mars is on her Natal Uranus (oppose Venus). Remember, how her final pre-natal eclipse marked this point for significance. Here is where that opposition and Uranus become most important. Mars [BLOOD] + Uranus [strange]. In medical astrology, a Mars/Uranus aspect shows sudden or reopened wounds and ruptures in the body.
The final eclipse is her death.
Gemma dies undergoing a mystical crucifixion on Good Friday. Twelve hours later an eclipse occurs and perfectly trines and sextiles her nodes. The symbolism is so on the nose its hard to know what to think of this girl.
Eclipses, like all things in astrology, is a deep subject. I’m sure I’ll find more in progression charts for her or deeper meaning in these eclipses. This article will be updated as more are discovered.
