L. Edward Johndro's Rulership
This page is to serve as a reference for readers. I use Johndro’s rulership schema for the zodiac. I understand this is obscure and unknown to most readers and astrologers, and thus hurts reader comprehension. So, below is Johndro’s zodiac wheel he gives in “A New Concept of Sign Rulership.”
This replaces the traditional and modern rulership system and is to be used not only with standard rulership techniques, but also to read the meaning of certain degrees much as an astrologer would do with decan rulers. This rulership scheme also influences the meaning of the aspects. All the signs have new planetary rulers. The fixed signs are split into two rulers seperating at the 15 degree mark. Another difference is the Sun and Moon are not included in the rulers. Johndro saw the luminaries as not working in any rulership schema.
The new rulership is to be used in companion with Johndro’s astrological dictionary. This is where you see me using terms for planets such as “Lost (Pluto) Weapon (Mars).” I cannot post the dictionary here. Nor can I for the aspects. The planetary word associations are often not contrary to how other astrologers might view the planets. The major differences are that Johndro sees Venus as being for young adults and children (rather than only feminine) and reserves the genders for the Sun and Moon. Other differences are minor, but may be significant to the reader. If the reader sees me use an association he finds odd or interesting, understand that it came from the astrological dictionary rather than me.
The primary way you see me crafting sentences through placements are via reading the rulers and subrulers in a degree. But, sometimes I also use the aspects to create sentences. In the Dictionary, Johndro also gives planetary associations to the aspects. Each arm of the aspect has two planetary associations, thus giving four in the aspect. So, if an aspect is Mercury, Uranus, Mercury, Uranus; I can plug in his Dictionary terms for the two planets to make a sentence [“Sudden (Uranus) Speech (Mercury) Announces (Mercury) Election (Uranus).”] Johndro uses the aspects formed at every 15 degrees. Many of these are seldom used aspects in astrology that do not even have settled names. These are the 0, 15, 30, 45, 60, 75, 90, 105, 120, 135, 150, 165, and 180 degree aspects. Part of this project is also using and affirming these aspects. The aspect sentences are not always spelled out nor are the aspects always considered because often simply joining the two planets together are sufficient, and Johndro did this more often than not. The aspects are to put a finer point on things or to literally spell out what is happening that the two planets cannot tell us by themselves.
Further, all predictive techniques used (progressions, arcs, and directions) are calculated to Johndro’s formulas and specifications for the techniques.
Part of this project of cataloging saint charts is to continually practice and test Johndro’s astrology. Contemporaries wrote that his rulership schema was interesting, but they never tested it. Johndro writes that he created the rulership by spotting contradictions in medical astrology, and Ptolemy’s associations. He felt that the new planets discovered required a reworking of the rulerships and so created his own via extensive research and testing. To my knowledge, no one else has adopted this rulership schema and tested it. That is what I am doing here.
